My Legacy: 5 Zurich City Tours (with Soundtracks)
Posted by Alexander under Love
1. Industrial Area - Lake Zurich (bike)
Essence: Pump up your adrenaline level by dashing through heaviest traffic, overtaking car after car to finally cool down again with a nice swin in lake Zurich.
Route: Hardbrücke - Albisriederplatz - Schmiede Wiedikon - Manesseplatz - Utobrücke - Bahnhof Enge - Rentenanstalt - GC Rowing Club
Soundtrack: Venetian Snares - Shitfuckers!!!, The End - Capitalsim ruined my childhood and now I’m really mad EP or T.Raumschmiere - Anti
Time: 18h
Traffic: Very heavy traffic. Busiest and most congested streets in Switzerland.
2. From Park to Park (bike)
Essence: This speedy but quiet downhill biketour takes you through quite a bit of the city from Irchelpark to a large park with beautiful old trees directly at lake Zurich. On the way you will be passing several upmarket residential areas, old churches, small parks and the university district.
Route: Milchbuck - Scheuchzerstrasse - University - Kunsthaus - Kreuzplatz - Feldeggstrasse - Dufourstrasse - Zürichhorn
Soundtrack: Old Man Gloom - Christmas, Pelican - Australasia or Converge - You Fail Me.
Time: 15h
Traffic: Very little traffic on this route.
3. Bullingerplatz - Zürich Mainstation (walking)
Essence: A soothing nighttime walk to the heart of the city tangenting the red-light district and passing by lots of old buildings and points of architectural, cultural or political interests.
Route: Bullingerplatz - Stauffacherstrasse - Bäckeranlage - Hohlstrasse - Brauerstrasse - Kaserne - Gessnerallee - Löwenplatz - Mainstation
Soundtrack: Rhythm & Sound - The Versions, Pan American - Quiet City or Keith Fullerton Whitman - Playthroughs
Time: 00:30h
Traffic: Most likely none or maybe a handful of cops and hookers.
4. Longstreet (walking)
Essence: From the Zurich of our mayor (he lives in Wiedikon, i think) through the bustling red-light district to the ‘junkies meet the police’ spot Limmatplatz. Don’t forget to walk in the pace of the neighbourhood: slow.
Route: Bhf Wiedikon - Kernstrasse - Bezirksgebäude - Xenix - Helvetiaplatz - Langstrasse - Limmatplatz
Soundtrack: Jaylib - Champion Sound, Konono No. 1 - Congotronics or one of my hiphop mixes
Time: 22h (on a weekend)
Traffic: Teachers, hippsters, hookers, hustlers, pushers, junkies, police
5. Limmat - Turbinenplatz (walking)
Essence: this pleasant stroll along the river limmat takes you to several hip swimming spots, the locations of two internationally reknown former open drug scenes, a nice family park with a small zoo and finally a former industrial area which now is a meetingplace for hedonists of all kinds.
Route: Central - Walchebrücke - Platzspitz - Dynamo - Oberer Letten - Bahnhof Letten - Unterer Letten - Wipkingerplatz - Wipkingerpark - Puls 5 - Turbinenplatz
Soundtrack: Lucien-N-Luciano - Blind Behaviour, Frivolous - Music From The Suburbs or B.Fleischmann - Welcome Tourist
Time: 13h
Traffic: Hippsters, families, teenagers, skaters, hedonists (might be too early for a significant number)
Alex just loved to ride (= dash) or walk (= amble) through Zurich with his ipod on full volume, blasting him away into another dimension (a euphoric, belligerent one on bike or contemplative, musing one on foot, that mostly was).
